Buzz: "Products are about conversations ... A blog is about conversation ..." I love listening to Buzz talk, I think I've heard him 3-4 times. Always cool. Still working on him to use Qumana. Now I use ActiveWords a lot ... opening apps, blog signatures, etc. Buzz is also using MindManager to present (he always does, and I love MindManager too).60-70% of ActiveWords downloads come as a result of blog posts.
"Why bother. Just blog what you find interesting, what belive in, and everything is fine" Dave Winer
Product blogs:
Customers are more important. Don't talk about your product all the time ... every few posts, is okay. Engaging a professional writer as a part of your team. Make sure your customers know what the heck you're talking about. Sometimes a customer can talk about your product better than you can. Those who are making money, are making money by writing on focused topics and writing well.
Darn. I was so enthralled with what Buzz was saying ... I forgot to write! Trust me here, Buzz is all about authenticity. I think he is one of the most generous folks I know in the Blogosphere and if he really likes your product, he's probably the best evangelists you could ever ask for.
Oh ... how much has ActiveWords spent on advertising? $600. Wow.
Changing gears ...
Byron is talking about Clipn'Seal. Great product. Love it. In fact I had two and I think my son absconded with one of them. Byron is talking about how they became popular. Comes down to relationships. Having people to start linking to you will boost your Google rankings. It's all good.
The story of Clip n Seal ... Hmm, Byron as a UPS driver, women do like to flirt with UPS drivers. Hmm, I'm sure there are great stories there.
Linking contests ... buzz marketing by blogroll. Clip-n-Seal doesn't spend much on ads, they are easily outspent. It's people who search for it via Google.
"To be a good blogger you have to be a good (I'd say great) blog reader." Buzz Bruggerman
Yeah. Totally. Buzz has a great anecdote on how ActiveWords was introed to Bill Gates. Based on what? Based on being able to connect with another person (on podcasting, in fact) and starting to forge a relationship with them. Yeah.
Baby Boomers are a stellar target market. The are affluent and have time on their hands. Boomers get older, paperbacks get taller. Interesting.
