Mac OS X Version Back In Operation

For the last 8 weeks or so we've known about and have been searching ways to resolve the problems which showed up the most recent Mac version of Qumana, with OS X 10.4.7+ ...

I think we are just about there in terms of being able to offer users a new release for the Mac that operates pretty effectively ... so far I have found just one instance of quirkiness (a previous post that did not fully refresh) on one of the various blogs I maintain for testing purposes.

Thus far I have tested posting to Wordpress, Typepad and Blogware platforms ... mixed results. Typepad fine, Blogware fine, and I knew Wordpress would not publish the Q-Ads I inserted ... but I was not prepared for it to ignore the YouTube html.

So, with a bit of fair weather following the pretty substantial snowfall here in Vancouver, we should be able to post a link to the new version of Qumana for Mac within the next 24 hours.

We will also update the download link on the Qumana website.

UPDATE: THERE IS A NEW DOWNLOAD LINK AVAILABLE FOR THE MAC OS X VERSION

UPDATE #2: We are tracking down the issues reported in our comments section. It seems that a crucial step in the uploading of the new version to the Qumana web site was not carried out yesterday due to power outages off the coast of British Columbia (the joys of a decentralised organization ;-)

We have people working on the problem(s).

UPDATE #3: We think that all that remains to do is refresh the server upon which the Qumana site is hosted ... unfortunately the person who can do that is located on an island 30 kilometres to the west of Vancouver, and it seems the power is still off over there.

More news re: the live updated Mac OS version as we get it.

UPDATE #4: It should be correct now ... the download will appear on your Desktop, and then just drop it into Applications.

It's probably a good thing to do to uninstall any previous application of Qumana, just for the hell of it.

It will get up there soon .. the guy who has to put it up on the web page is on the other side of the world and just got up a couple of hours ago ;-)

We will appreciate any feedback, especially any that idenifies any additional bugs.

Don't think it's the right one. Has the same Sept 1, 2006 date as the prior version. Has the same problem.

jonh - the downloaded executable has a creation date of September 1, 2006 (same as the version from last week).

When I run it, I click "ok" on the configuration wizard than I get the splash screen and it won't go away. It says 0 blogs found and stays there. All I can do is to to the preferences box.

Can you check to make sure the new version is in the right place for download? Seems like this is still the prior version.

Thanks for alerting us .. we are compiling several different versions now that the arrangement with Typepad has launched, including new versions for the other languyages. My colleague is checking all the versions, and I am going to de-install and then download from the site to check things out.

Please keep checking, and we will get it sorted, for sure.

Okay, so when do we XP users get a version that works with the now out-of-beta blogger? I love Qumana, but really hate not being able to make the move to the improved blogger!

It is on our list of priorities for our developer (one thing at a time at the moment), and we should have some news re: the new Blogger platform some time soon.

I will make a blog post about compatability with the now-out-of-beta-Blogger as soon as we have something relevant to say.

Performancing Firefox now works with it, but I have other issues with that add-in and still prefer Qumana. Hate to be impatient, but...

I'll be watching for the announcement!

The new version works great!

Now I have just a simple question, I am using Qumana to edit a blogspot blog, can I upload an image directly from my computer to my blogger account? I tried but the upload button is not possible to press...

For some reason we have not yet been able to identify clearly, Blogger does not like uploading pictures through Qumana.

If anyone out there can ever give us any techniocal or architectural insight into the design and functioning of Blogger, we will be happy to implement anything that will make the pix work.

Jonh, I don't seem to see the DropPad. Is DropPad available on the Mac?

The editor is working fine and I have used it quite successfully to post a few entries.

Me too! I cannot see the DropPad on my white MacBook (MacOS 10.4.8). But I am so happy to tell you all that the new Qumana is working exactly as I expected. Thanks!!

I have qumana installed on two Macs: an intel Mac Mini with 10.4.8 and an intel MacBook Pro also with 10.4.8. I don't see the DropPad on either of them.

If I had to guess I'd say it has something to do with the intel processors -- neither of the two Macs you mention (iBook and Powerbook) are intel based.

Thanks for this, folks. I suspect that you are right, ubinemo .. I'll bet it's the Intel Chip .. we'll have to look intio what can be done.

Luckily the DropPad is basically just an alternative to "copy-and-paste", for those who want a different work flow or like the ease of just dragging a quote or pic over.

So (as you no doubt know) you can just pretend that you have hidden the DropPad.

I must say .. I use "copy-and-paste" just as much as I use the DropPad .. and I used to use the DropPad much more.

That's one of the next phases of an ongoing usability study (or may be) .. to study how we might make the DropPad more usable, more user-friendly, more "wow .. that's cool" ... somehow.
